SPECIES DESCRIPTION
RAPISTRUM RUGOSUM

Family and Genus:- See- CRUCIFERAE

Common Names:- Bastard cabbage

Homotypic Synonyms:- Cakile rugosa, Cochlearia rugosa, Myagrum rugosum
Schrankia rugosa.

Meaning:- Rapistrum (L) Wild-turnip-like.
                  Rugosum (L) Wrinkled.                 
                
General description:- Annual, hispid below, often glabrous above.

Stem:-
1) 15-60(-100) cm.

Leaves:-
1) Lower, pinnate.
2) Upper, usually dentate, sessile to petiolate.

Flowers:-
1) Petals, pale yellow, 6-10 mm.

Fruit:-
1) Silicula, 3-10 mm.
    a) upper segment, 3-6 mm (including beak), ovoid to globose, abruptly 
        contracted into a filiform beak 1-3(-5) mm.
   b) lower segment, (0·7-)1·2-3 mm, cylindrical to ellipsoidal.

Habitat:- Cultivated fields, olive groves, roadsides and ruderal habitats, occasionally
in gorges or sandy places by the coast. 0-1300 m.

Distribution:- Throughout Greece, the Mediterranean region and SW Asia. fairly
widespread on Crete.

Flowering time:- Mid-Mar to June.
