LAMYROPSIS CYNAROIDES

Cirsium cynaroides, Cnicus cynaroides, Lamyra cynaroides, Pternix
cynarioides

Meaning:- Lamyropsis Meaning unknown.
                  Cynaroides (L) Resembling cynara.

General description:- Perennial.

Stem:-
1) 20-50cm., white-arachnoid-lanate.

Leaves:-
1) Broadly oblong, pinnatifid to pinnatisect, villous on the veins above, white-
    tomentose beneath; segments 3- to 5-lobed, the lobes triangular, with spines
    1·5-4 mm.

Flowers:-
1) Capitula pedunculate, solitary or few in clusters.
2) Involucre 27-35 x 25-30 mm.
3) Bracts ,with a long, patent to deflexed, subulate apex bearing a stout spine.
4) Corolla 26-34 mm, purplish-pink.

Fruit:-
1) Achenes 5-6 mm; pappus 17-21 mm.

Habitat:- Rocky and gravelly slopes with open dry shrubby vegetation and open
coniferous woodland, roadsides. 0-1100(-1500) m.

Distribution:- scattered in W Peloponnisos, W mainland and Ionia Islands. -
extending to SW Anatolia. Widespread and common on Crete.

Flowering time:- Mar-June.
