Meaning:- Allium (L) The ancient Latin name for garlic.
Dentiferum (L) Tooth-bearing.
General description:- Very variable medium to tall bulbous perennial.
Bulb:-
a) Ovoid, with numerous bulblets.
b) outer tunics dark brown, membranous.
Stem:-
a) 40-90 cm.
b) sheathed halfway by 5 or 6 leaves.
Leaves:-
a) linear, tubular (fistulose)
Flowers:-
1) Spathe valves.
a) 2, persistent,
b) narrowly lance-shaped-thread-like (lanceolate-filiform),
c) at least the longer exceeding the inflorescence.
2) Umbel:
a) diffuse.
b) many-flowered, with unequal stems (pedicels).
3) Flowers:
a) bell-shaped (campanulate),
b) brownish or purplish-green;
4) Perianth segments:
a) 5.5-6.5 mm.
b) obtuse, ending in an abrupt, short point (apiculate).

Habitat:- Dry open shrubby vegetation, vineyards, olive groves and ruderal
habitats.. 0-800 m.
Distribution:- Widespread in the Mediterranean area from Spain to Palestine. Rare
with limited distribution on Crete,
